THE BARÖ ARCHITECTURAL COMPETITION
General Objective and Purpose of the Competition
Welcome to The Barö Architectural Competition, organized in collaboration with Aalto University. The purpose of this competition is to find sustainable design solutions for the expansion of The Barö Hotel, including holiday villas, a restaurant, event and meeting spaces, and sauna buildings. The hotel is located in Inkoo, in the heart of Finland’s most beautiful archipelago, and operates based on sustainability, unique experiences, and architectural design harmoniously connected to nature.
Competition Scope and Objectives
The competition invites proposals for modular and prefabricated buildings that align with The Barö’s brand and architectural identity. The design should respect the surrounding archipelago landscape and preserve the natural terrain as much as possible.
Competition Schedule
Launch of competition: December 18th, 2024
Deadline for inquiries: January 7th, 2025
Submission deadline: January 31st, 2025
Announcement of results: February 2025
Awards
1st Prize: €3000 + the opportunity to participate in the design and construction process
2nd Prize: €1500
3rd Prize: €1000
Honorable Mention: Optional
Participation Details
The competition is open to Aalto University students. Submissions are anonymous, and detailed guidelines are provided in the competition materials.
On-Site Visit
Participants have the right to visit the site during the competition at their own convenience. You may park your vehicle in The Barö Hotel’s (Barösundintie 679, 10270 Inkoo) parking area, which provides good access to the site. Please note that there will be no staff present on-site during your visit.
